The Roane County Chamber of Commerce, Roane County Schools, and Roane County Education Foundation recognized 103 graduating seniors as Roane County Tennessee Scholars at an awards breakfast and ceremony at Roane County High School on April 30.
A grant from Dr. Timothy Bell, DO, Certified Osteopathic Family Physician, Kingston, Tennessee, primarily funds the Roand County Tennessee Scholars program. Dr. Bell donated $5,000 to the Roane County Schools Education Foundation to support the Roane County Tennessee Scholars program.
At the awards ceremony, Roane State Community College President Chris Whaley awarded six $500 RSCC Tennessee Scholars Scholarships, one for a Scholar from each of the five high schools and Roane County Virtual Academy, to attend Roane State in the fall. The RSCC scholarship recipients are Dakota Adkins, Oliver Springs Academy; Koda Coley, Roane County Virtual Academy; Damaris Contreras, Midway High School; Morgan Crass, Harriman High School; Anna Givens, Rockwood High School; and Haley Whittenbarger, Roane County High School.
Additionally, six of the 103 Scholars received $500 Tennessee Scholar Scholarships; the recipients were selected randomly, so each of the 103 students had an equal chance to receive a scholarship to support their education and career goals. Tennessee Scholar Scholarships were funded by a grant from Enbridge, owner and operator of East Tennessee Natural Gas, through its Fueling Futures program that prioritizes investing in local organizations focusing on youth professional development and workforce training. The students receiving the Enbridge scholarships are Koda Coley, Roane County Virtual Academy; Brylee Crouse, Roane County High School; Nicole Gann, Oliver Springs Academy; Kiana Green, Rockwood High School; Gabriella Herrera, Roane County High School; and Isabella Hill, Oliver Springs Academy.
